The Balloons, Planes and Automobiles event will be held in McMinnville, OR and on the Oregon/Washington Coast on Friday-Monday, August 20-23, 2010.
Audi Club Northwest is pleased to announce a new event this year! The Balloons, Planes and Automobiles weekend will include ballooning, visiting an aviation museum, driving twisty forest roads between McMinnville and the Oregon coast, visiting an historic Oregon state park, visiting lighthouses, and enjoying exceptional views of the Pacific Ocean. The event includes excellent photo opportunities throughout the weekend, and new and existing club members should enjoy this unique social event. Mark your calendars for this fun weekend and unique experience!
Friday Aug 20: Drive to McMinnville, OR. Club members can drive on their own, or Washington drivers have the option of a group drive. The group drive will meet at 8:45 am at The Rock Pizza, 34817 Enchanted Parkway South, Federal Way, 98003. Departing by 9:00 am, the group drive route will include a 10 minute ferry ride across the Columbia River on the ferry Wahkiakum. Friday evening in McMinnville will be open, allowing members a relaxing evening of their choice. Accommodations Friday night are at the Red Lion Inn, only 1.2 miles from the Evergreen Aviation Museum. Hotel reservation details will be provided in your registration confirmation email.
Saturday Aug 21: McMinnville, OR. The group will meet at the Evergreen Aviation Museum by 5:45 am for the morning balloon event at 6:00. Members will be spectators to 20 hot air balloons flying from the museum that will last approximately 1-2 hours. Audi Club will have a 7:00 am group tour at the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum. The museum offers the added opportunity of opening their main hangar doors and allowing drivers and cars into the museum to have pictures taken with airplanes for a cost of only $15.00. The photo session will begin at 10:00 am. The tour will include lunch at 11:00 am at a private area in the museum. The cost for the museum tour and lunch is $31.00. The group drive will depart the Red Lion Inn at approximately 1:00 pm, taking twisty forest roads through and around the coastal mountains, returning to McMinnville in the early evening. A group dinner is being planned. The group will then meet at the museum by 7:00 pm for the evening balloon event. A balloon glow (balloons inflating after dark) is scheduled at 8:00 pm at the museum, for those who would like to see the spectacular sight of balloons lighting up after dark. Accommodations Saturday night are at the Red Lion Inn again.
Sunday Aug 22: McMinnville, OR to Warrenton, OR. The group will meet at the museum by 5:45 am for the morning balloon event at 6:00 am (optional). Members may sleep in and meet the group for breakfast at a time and location to be determined. After check out the group drive will depart the hotel at 10:30 am, taking a route along the coastal mountain roads and Hwy 101 to Warrenton, OR. A group dinner is being planned. After dinner the group will make an evening visit to Fort Stevens State Park at the mouth of the Columbia River for sunset on the beach. Accommodations Sunday night are at the Shilo Inn, only 5 miles from Fort Stevens State Park. Hotel reservation details will be provided in your registration confirmation email.
Monday Aug 23: Warrenton,OR to Home. The group will sleep in, have breakfast at a location to be determined, and have a leisurely drive back home. Washington members can partake in a group drive, departing Warrenton at 8:00 am, possibly driving up the Washington coast on Hwy 101. The actual route of the drive will be determined in a group discussion Sunday evening, as many different choices are possible, with the drive timed to arrive back to the Seattle area before evening rush hour. Oregon drivers may plan their own group drive back home. Lunch is at a location to be determined.
