What is Twilight?
Twilight is the first ever night time High Performance Driver Education event to take place at Pocono Raceway in the Northeast! Although the idea of a night time HPDE is new to enthusiasts in the Northeast, many car clubs and organizations in the Southern United States have been holding night time track events for years. During the racing season, daytime temperatures are simply too hot for car clubs in the South to safely and comfortably run track events. Clubs like PCA Gold Cost Region resort to night time HPDE's to alleviate this problem.
Some of us at ACNA-NJ and MRF have attended a few of these night events in the Southern US. With our experience doing these night events and help from the experienced Southern car clubs, we have been able to take what we have learned and apply it to the Twilight event at Pocono Raceway. Typically in the Northeast, we do not have excessive heat issues with the weather, however we do have the desire to experience new challenges that will improve our driving both on the street and on the track.
Twilight will take place on Saturday, September 7th, 2013 at Pocono Raceway on the 1.5 mile North Course. Twilight runs and operates similarly to any other HPDE track event-all that changes is the time of day we begin.
The first car will be out on track at 6:00pm. The schedule will allow each run group to progress into the night with one daylight run, one at dusk and two runs at night. Students will experience High Performance Driving as though they were driving in the 24 hours of Le Mans or Daytona. As the daylight dissipates, the new challenges like "over driving the headlights" will become apparent and students will work with their instructors on ways to overcome these new challenges and ultimately become superior night time drivers. There will be lighting around the track illuminating each corner to aid drivers through the brake zone and on through the apex and track out. Professional flaggers will be at flagging stations around the course and they will be illuminated as well.
Pre-Event Technical Inspection:
